How we lost our empathic brain along the way and how to recover it.

Photo by Clay Banks on Unsplash

Empathy has been an emotion I have not thought about most of my life. I guess I never really found it incredibly important. Love, happiness, and hope resemble my positive emotions and thoughts, but empathy was never really part of my conscious system.

It became part of my daily thoughts after a job training I had some weeks ago about the importance of feeling empathy while doing my job. After this, I had to find a book and read it as fast as possible to share my takeaways with you. …

Polar bears will disappear and the Amazon is burning. What about actual humans being displaced or dying due to climate change?

Photo by Tim Mossholder on Unsplash, The Current Dystopia

There is no doubt that global warming is affecting millions of people, particularly those who live near the sea or desert. Despite this, the discourse we usually hear on the climate crisis is about the polar bears dying and the ecosystem destruction. This is important, I know. But this discourse is also dangerous as it excludes millions of humans being affected by the crisis; we do not see this in the news, politics, or our day-to-day conversations. …

My mind has been controlled by emotions I usually don't have

Emotions of instability, confusion, intrusion

I feel consumed by my thoughts

My never-ending mind

cannot be shut up

My actions show me the answer,

and after long rest-less days

my pillow becomes my best friend

Yet when my head touches it

it illuminates my mind once again with thoughts,

It becomes rest-less

and my body does too

A tornado of emotions in my mind

all because I cannot decide

How do you decide?

How do you make the tough…

I have been trying to keep myself busy all the past year and have planned a rigid google calendar to follow every day. Workout, read, write, dutch, lunch, class, chill. Most of my days looked like this to make sure I had a full schedule and did not think about the outer world and our current crisis. I have avoided falling under the student population who are currently feeling unmotivated, bored, or lonely. I managed to make it work for a year. I really wanted to prove myself wrong. I wanted to do as much as I could with my…

A poem to our wild wolf

Photo by Thomas Bonometti on Unsplash

The wild woman has been kept inside of us

we are born to run with wolves

to touch the skies

to aim for more

the wild woman is unstoppable

To be a wild woman is to embrace our female ancestors

those who survived the largest predators on earth

those who through fire at night found the future

The wild woman is one who embraces herself

who dresses up as she like

and talks as she pleases

but let's not forget

the wild woman is that one too,

who walks 20 kilometers every…

At this point, there´s no need to explain all the flaws in the fashion industry. From the cheap labor force in Asia to the disposable culture of over-consumption, the fashion industry today is the second-largest polluter in the world. Yes, you read that right. By 2025, it is expected for the textile industry to account for 25% of the global carbon budget due to the way of production and our lack of awareness. There are three main issues with our fashion industry: its lack of social responsibility, its failure to produce within the boundaries of the planet, and the lack…

So, it was not enough for humanity to rule the world; now, we also want to modify its natural state through technology. This is known as geoengineering. This recent scheme can do two different things: either suck up the CO2 out of the sky to reduce the heat trapped in the atmosphere or reflect more sunlight away from Earth to absorb less heat.

Yes, I know, sucking up CO2 with technology? Is this science fiction 101? cause it very much looks like it. But don’t forget, every science fiction movie has its dystopic feature. …

What if

We eliminated what we call home

Our country

Our nation

The wall creating so many dilemmas;

What if

the walls were torn down

with waves crushing hard towards them

while they pray to stay up and strong

What if

there was no concept of country

of nation

of I am from here

and you? are from there

What if we were all humans

all part of the earth

What if we were all

brothers and sisters

coming from the same place,

the same planet,

the same soil

What if

we were no one
